The United Kingdom has a long history of close and extensive interaction with the Islamic world. For this reason, a vast amount of research has been carried out into Islamic countries by UK scholars, and the fruits of this work are now enjoyed by researchers in Japan and other countries worldwide. In particular, a great emphasis has been put on the aspect of field work in contemporary Middle East, and empirical research is now being carried out from various angles.
The two British researchers who speaked at the lecture are up-and-coming experts on the Arabian Peninsula. In the course of the lecture, they discussed the impact of the Arab Spring in the region, as well as its implications for the future.
