Lecture Information
The Sasakawa Peace Foundation has invited H. E. Ambassador Volkan Bozkir, Member of Turkish Parliament to speak at the seminar detailed below, on April 15th, 2014.

Turkish Foreign Policy during AK party (Justice and Development Party) period represents a major departure from what it was under previous governments. While the protracted domestic problems of democratization reform, civil-military relations, and the Kurdish issue were addressed, policy makers went beyond and began to mobilize Turkey's hard and soft power with a view to establish constructive relations with neighbors. On the one hand, Turkey has anchored itself in the European Union and NATO as a sign of its willingness to work with its old allies in the West. On the other hand, it also embarked on an ambitious project of diversifying its foreign policy relations in the Balkans, Central Asia and Caucasus, Middle East and North Africa.

Under the new foreign policy, "ZERO PROBLEM WITH NEIGHBORS," Turkey has been investing in economics and political relations, providing humanitarian and development aid, active engagement in conflict resolutions and public diplomacy, lending support to democratization movements (especially in the Middle East). These have all helped Turkey to become an increasingly visible and important international player. Ambassador Bozkir explained the Crimean and Syrian issues from the viewpoint of the Turkish Foreign Policy.
