The Sasakawa Peace Foundation Global Frontier Fund will host The 2016 World Forum for Muslim Democrats on 24th & 25th November.

"The World Forum for Muslim Democrats" aims to bring together leaders, intellectuals and professionals from the "Muslim Democrat" community, together with their non-Muslim counterparts to articulate their views on matters pertaining to freedom, democracy, justice and development.

We do hope that you will join us at this informative event.

In recent months, the outbreak of Islamic terror in major European, Middle-Eastern and Asian cities has threatened the coexistence of multiculturalism in societies where Muslims are a minority. Most troubling of all, there are increasingly large and vocal groups of non-Muslims in Western countries who believe that all Muslims are believers of or sympathizers with militant Islam or Muslim radicals or extremists. Due in part to this perceived connection, the emergence of Islamophobia is eroding the peaceful coexistence of Muslim minorities in non-Muslim-majority countries with particular respect to democracy, tolerance and inclusiveness.

Islamophobia refers to the prejudice against, or fear or dislike of Islam or Muslims in a non-Muslim-majority societies. It`s perpetuation can influence members of these society to discriminate against, or in some cases to exclude the Muslim minority. Consequently, Islamophobia generates counter effects that have the potential to turn the Muslim minority into violent radicals, or worst of all militants or terrorists. For this reason, Islamophobia not only splits the coexistence of Muslims and non-Muslims, it also divides Muslims from within into two opposing groups; those who preach peaceful co-existence, tolerance and compassion versus those who turn espouse violence, intolerance and exclusion. Against this backdrop, the objective of this, the 3rd WFMD is ‘Strengthening Democracy in the Fight against Extremism and Islamophobia’.
