A Seminar on ”Egypt's Political Prospects in an Unstable Middle East"

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation Presents:
A Seminar on ”Egypt's Political Prospects in an Unstable Middle East"
by H.E. Mr. Hisham El-Zimaity, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Japan (September 5, 2014)
Closed.
At the invitation of the Sasakawa Middle East and Islam Fund, Egyptian Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Hisham El-Zimaity will give a lecture on 'Egypt's political prospects in an unstable Middle East', on Friday, 5 September, 2014.

It is argued that the failure to form an inclusive government by excluding all the liberal forces, and the worsening economic situation under the Morsi administration triggered the massive anti-governmental demonstrations on 30 June, 2013 in Egypt. After the administration's collapse, the interim cabinet managed to stabilize the socio-economic situation of the country by taking effective measures including reducing the subsidies to gasoline and bread, and by adapting financial support from foreign countries to achieve these goals. Yet foreign investments as well as tourists coming into Egypt declined over security concerns. The Presidential Election was held on 26, 27 and 28 May 2014in the most transparent manner under international supervision, and Mr. El-Sisi, deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister won in a landslide victory with nearly 23 million votes. President El-Sisi was sworn into office on 8 June 2014.

H.E. Ambassador Hisham El-Zimaity will speak on the prospects of Egypt's politics in an unstable Middle East under the newly-elected President El-Sisi.
