Rural Development Training Program in Thailand for Personnel from Laos

Project contents
Despite the fact that some 90% of Lao people work in or are directly dependent on agriculture, rural development in Laos continues to flounder well below the level the country needs to make a successful transition to a market economy. This project was designed to help raise the standards of agriculture in Laos by inviting Lao government and NGO personnel to Thailand to undertake rural development training programs con- ducted by Thai experts in the field. A total of 72 Lao trainees took part in the programs over the three years of the project. This year, several of these former trainees formed a kind of alumni association to actively promote rural development throughout Laos. In response to their enthusiasm, the Thai-La Association was established in Thailand to carry on the work of providing training opportunities for rural management personnel from Laos.
