This video presents the full recording of the international symposium “Women’s Leadership for Peace and Security,” held at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation on March 5, 2026. The symposium brought together experts involved in peace processes in regions such as Northern Ireland and the Philippines to explore how women have contributed to conflict resolution and sustainable peacebuilding, drawing on real-world experiences and case studies.

This seminar featured Ambassador Tariq Karim of Bangladesh (Director of the Bay of Bengal Research Center at Bangladesh Independent University and Special Visiting Scholar at the South Asia Institute of the National University of Singapore). He discussed the recent political turmoil in Bangladesh and the international attention it has garnered, focusing particularly on the geopolitical significance of the Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh’s role as a mediator in fostering cooperation between South Asia and Southeast Asia.

De-radicalization and Reintegration of "Terrorists": Practical Insights from Bangladesh (2024.07.31)

This seminar featured expert presentations and discussions by experts on the current state and challenges of de-radicalization programs in Bangladesh.

Professor Imtiaz Ahmad from the Department of International Relations at the University of Dhaka presented on the progress of the country's de-radicalization programs and the importance of cultural counseling. This was followed by a presentation from Afsana Mimi, a prominent Bangladeshi actress and cultural counselor, who shared insights on practical approaches to social reintegration, using the arts as medium to open up their minds. In addition, psychologist Saidul Islam offered his analysis of psychological counseling methods, which support enhancements of former violent extremist offenders’ cognitive and problem solving skills, as well as redefinition of their identities and objectives of their lives.

Conversation with Social Entrepreneurs – Philippines' CARD MRI & WELgee's Initiatives (2024.07.04)

The seminar featured Dr. Jaime Aristotle B. Alip, founder of CARD MRI, who has built a "Mutually Reinforcing Institute" consisting of 26 organizations in the Philippines and operates a microfinance business with 9.37 million members, and Ms. Sayaka Watanabe Kankologo, President of WELgee, who works towards creating "a society where we can build a future together with refugees" in Japan. Tetsuo Kato, author of "Henkyo kara Sekai wo Kaeru" (Changing the World from the Frontier) and president of the REEP Foundation, served as moderator.

Seeking Peace: The State of Peace Mediation Support (April 22, 2024)

On April 22, 2024, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation held a seminar on Peace Mediation Support. Members of the international NGO network "Mediation Support Network (MSN)" participated, along with representatives from regions that have received mediation support, such as the Basque Country in Spain and southern Thailand, who shared their experiences and the impact of these interventions.

Engagement & Remedy Forum for Responsible Business Conduct 2023: A Way Forward

“Access to Remedy” is one of the main pillars of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and yet, it has been most neglected. This Forum was first launched in February 2020 with the aim of pushing this pillar to the fore. The special feature of the Forum has been the establishment of a new grievance mechanism, inspired by the Engagement & Remedy Guidelines. The Forum has been acting as a venue to deliver a progress of this new mechanism, among others, such as discussing and learning the latest developments on business and human rights – in particular, access to remedy, within and outside of Japan.
