Japan – Norway Sustainable Ocean Policy Forum 2022

Overview  The ocean connects the world, and it is vital to promote international collective actions to safeguard its future sustainability. In 2018, the Government of Norway therefore launched the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy (Ocean Panel) in order to promote powerful new sustainability agenda for the world’s ocean. Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and President Surangel Whipps Jr. of Palau co-chairs the Panel in which Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan participate. The Ocean Panel has released its policy recommendations in December 2020, in which the development and implementation of sustainable ocean plans and the establishment of sustainable fisheries are important pillars. They will be the thematic focus of the Ocean Seminar.

 The discussions will be conducted by Japanese and Norwegian government representatives, experts and practitioners, who will exchange views and perspectives with a view to building strong international partnerships. The discussions are particularly relevant now, in the run-up to the Our Ocean Conference in Palau in April and the the 2nd UN Ocean Conference in Portugal in June.
