When Philanthropy Meets Innovative Finance
Opportunities for Foundations in Gender Lens Investing

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation has engaged with Impact Investment Exchange (IIX) to explore the role of innovative financial instruments in funding interventions that improve the lives of women and girls in Asia. This IIX-led study also identified the catalytic role that philanthropic institutions can play in promoting innovative finance and thereby advance their missions.
Using three case studies of innovative financial mechanisms that are applying a gender lens across Asia, the article illustrates how innovative finance can create gendered impact and how philanthropic players can use their resources to support the development of such funding mechanisms.
