The purpose of this project was to develop Myanmar's
human resources in the fields of international relations and
security studies through training and an intensive lecture
series on modern international relations, security, and
geopolitical and strategic studies. From August 10 to 27,
six people involved in international relations and security
in Myanmar undertook training in Malaysia consisting
chiefly of lectures by Malaysian security experts and visits
to Ministry of Defense facilities. The lecturers also included
Major Daisaku Sakaguchi of the Japan Ground Self-
Defense Force Staff College. In late September five security
experts, four from Malaysia and one from the Japan
Institute of International Affairs, visited Yangon, where
they presented an intensive lecture series at the officer
training school, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and
elsewhere.
