Brief Overview of Fiscal 2008 Activities

In fiscal 2008, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) implemented a total of 52 projects, classified either as regular projects or projects implemented under one of three Funds: the Sasakawa Pacific Island Nations Fund, the Sasakawa Japan-China Friendship Fund, or the Sasakawa Pan Asia Fund. Project expenses excluding those for internal operations*1 totaled ¥487.84 million. Details on the regular projects and projects implemented under the Funds are at Project List.
With the rising interest in maritime policy in Japan today, in fiscal 2008 SPF asked the Nippon Foundation to support its efforts to identify solutions for various ocean-related issues. With this support, the decision was made to launch the new Maritime Nation Support Fund. Plans call for the financial assistance to be used for both regular projects and projects of all three Funds.
