Sasakawa Pacific Islands Journalism Fellowship
5,500,000 yen [Self-Operated/Commissioned Project]
The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Pacific Magazine (USA)
This project resulted from the external evaluation of "Exchange Media Personnel among the Pacific Island Region and Japan" project which lasted from 1991 to 2004. The project aims to train journalists of the targeted area to enhance their capabilities through on-site training of covering and reporting in Japan while at the same time seeking to nurture journalists who can write articles from the viewpoint of Pacific Island region reflecting their own values. In addition to the field training in Japan, the trainees will participate in discussions on the web (Online Forum) to share information and experience among participants while they will also use the online forum for pre- and post-training sessions..
This year, tourism, an important industry for the island nations, is chosen as a subject. Three journalists from the region will be invited to cover how the Japanese government, local governments, private tourist companies, and universities address tourism industry.
- Screening of Trainees (April-August 2006)
