Human Resource Development for ASEAN in Myanmar
7,600,000 yen [Self-Operated/Grant Project]
The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies (Myanmar)
It is most essential for Myanmar to strengthen its diplomatic ties with ASEAN countries to reduce international distrust toward Myanmar and to receive development aid from foreign countries. However, it has been pointed out that diplomats and officers from relevant government departments do not have sufficient capability to manage international meetings and diplomatic affairs. In this regard, capacity building of diplomatic management is acutely needed.
The project aims to nurture capable diplomats and relevant officers in the Myanmar government who can organize and run international meetings by sending them to ASEAN host countries to learn management skills for summits and ministerial summits, and organizing seminars back home in Yangon to share their experience and management skills with relevant Myanmar officers. The project tries to contribute to strengthening the management capacity of Myanmar diplomats to fulfill their duty as a member of ASEAN, and to develop and maintain good partnership with other ASEAN countries.
In the second year of the project, following activities are planned.
- Self-Operated Project (July 2007-March 2008)
As local coordinator the project assigns Mr. Aye Lwin, former ASEAN Bureau chief of Maynmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who is well versed in government organizations of counterpart countries and has a rich pool of human connection to engage in screening of participants in the grant portion of the project and to offer cooperation and advice in other various aspects of communication and coordination.
- Grant Project
