Supporting Journalism in Asia/Phase II

Outreach activities from Asia are not active as Western media at a time when the political and economical importance of Asia have been increasing. The project aims to change the current situations of Asian outreach activities in a bid to encourage co-existence of pluralistic values while strengthening Asian journalist networks.

The following exchange activities are planned this year.
  1. Asia Journalist Forum (Commissioned to MCOT)
    About 20 young journalists with over three years of experiences will be invited from East, South and Central Asia as well as the Middle East, to organize a conference to share information and experiences (in January 2008 in Bangkok). Relevant topic which attracts a lot of attention at that point in time will be selected out of the theory of journalism, human rights and international politics, etc.

  2. Strengthening of Asian Outreach Activities (Commissioned to Yayasan 21 Juni 1994)
    (1) Continuation of management of web-based magazine gAsiaViewsh
    (2) Monthly magazine Asia Views will carry six-page articles about achievements of SPF projects and other articles written by individuals related to the SPF.

  3. Fostering Young Journalists
    (1) Supporting the Development of Young Journalists in Myanmar (Commissioned to Myanmar Consolidated Media Co.,Ltd)
    Lecturers will be invited from overseas (e.g. Australia) to give on-site training to seven young journalists in Myanmar.
    (2) Supporting the Development of Young Tajiki Journalists (Commissioned to International Center Goa)
    Lectures covering media-related laws, management and other topics will be provided for five weeks in India, soliciting cooperation from Inter News, a non-government organization.
