Promoting Exchanges between Non-Governmental Organizations at Local Level of Japan and Vietnam

The project is part of the exchange program between Vietnam and Japan at the local level, and aims to promote continuous and voluntary exchanges and collaborations among non-profit sectors of Japan and Vietnam by providing relevant people with opportunities for sharing experience and exchanging opinions in areas of common interest. Over a period of two and half years starting from October 2006, the project will provide various exchange activities including experience sharing seminars (Vietnam) and site visits (Japan) on the development of local areas and the provision of public services by non-profit sectors to promote mutual understanding and the formation of human networks among the non-profit sectors of Japan and Vietnam.
This yearfs main participants include mass organizations based in provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Nam, and Vinh Long in Vietnam and representatives from citizenfs organizations from Chiba, Ehime and Hiroshima prefectures in Japan. The exchange activities described below are planned in the areas of sewage management, clean water supply, organic agriculture, road-side station and others.
- Preparations including Preliminary Coordination Meeting
(1) Coordination Meeting (July 2007, Vietnam)
Building upon the activities done in the previous year, a coordination meeting will be held to reconfirm an implementation plan, schedule, etc. About fifteen to twenty participants are expected including the VPDF and representatives of the target Vietnamese provinces.
(2) Preparatory Works (2007)
According to the outcome of the coordination meeting, preparations such as screening of delegates will be made in tandem with the Japan side.
- Japan Visit and Exchanges (September 2007, Japan)
Approximately six delegates on behalf of the mass organizations in target provinces will be invited to Japan to observe activities of citizensf organizations in Chiba, Ehime and Hiroshima prefectures, respectively.
- Experience Sharing Workshop (January 2008, Vietnam)
Delegates of Japanese non-profit organizations (about six persons) will be sent to hold a workshop where experiences are shared. Expected attendance is about thirty from Vietnamese mass organizations and non-profit sector in the three target areas, and others.
- Production of Report (January to March, 2008)
The achievement of aforementioned activities and plans for the following years will be incorporated in a report.
