Sasakawa Pacific Islands Journalism Fellowship

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Pacific Magazine (USA)
This project resulted from the external evaluation of gExchange Media Personnel among the Pacific Island Region and Japanh project which lasted from 1991 to 2004. The project aims to train journalists who can write articles from the viewpoint of Pacific Island values. Selected journalists will receive training when they report actual events in Japan. After reporting, the trainees will participate in discussions on the web (Online Forum) to share information and experience among participants.
Activities for the first year will be as follows.
- Recruiting and selection of participants
Four participants will be selected in April. Recruiting, selection, and the development of training programs will be commissioned to Pacific Magazine, Honolulu.
- On-site training
On-site training will be conducted during reporting at the Japan-Pacific Islands Forum Summit Meeting scheduled for 25 (Tokyo), 26 and 27 (Okinawa) of May , and the reporting of other original topics in Tokyo. Trainees will write articles during their stay in Japan and the articles will be delivered to the media. Training in Tokyo will be commissioned to Global Media Lab.
- Online Forum
The Online Forum will be maintained throughout the 3-year project.
