Research on Effective ways to Promote Philanthropy in East Central Europe-from the View of Effects of Percentage Philanthropy

In central European countries, the non-profit sectors have quickly developed with support from the US and western European countries since the systematic transformation in the late 1980s. The project will study and analyze the mechanisms of the development of non-profit sectors in central European countries in order to transfer their experience to countries that surround them and wish to develop domestic non-profit sectors. The results of the study and analysis will be disclosed at international meetings. In addition to the above activities, the implementing NPO will collect information on donation systems and behavior in central European and surrounding countries, and the information will be disseminated on the website of the implementing.

This year, the following activities are planned to collect information on legislation and taxation systems, and to measure to support non-profit sector in Hungary.
  1. Study and analysis (July, 2006 to March, 2007)
    Two researchers in each of the following subjects will be selected to collect and analyze information. A top expert in non-profit sector study will be hired to supervise and advise the researchers. The following are tentative subjects: the final subjects will be decided after conducting an analysis of the statistical characteristics of central Europe.
    (1) Donation tendencies , especially civil donation activities
    (2) Fund raising methods of non-profit organizations
    (3) Case studies of NPO activities

  2. International meeting (July, 2006)
    The results of the study will be disclosed at the Development Program Session of the International Society for Third-Sector Research (ISTR) to call attention to the subjects and to collect advice.

  3. Dissemination
    Information on donation systems and behaviors in central European countries and surrounding countries will be collected and disseminated on the website of the implementing NPO.
