Sasakawa Scholarship System for Chinese Students Studying Japanese, PhaseII

The Sasakawa Japan-China Friendship Fund has been conducting the "Sasakawa Scholarship System for Chinese Students Studying Japanese" project since 1995. The first phase was from 1995 to 1999 and the second phase was from 2000 to 2004. The present project is the second year of the third phase of the original project. From 1995 to 2005, about 100 students received grants every year, and the number of scholarship students totaled about 1000 who received grants totaling about 2,100,000 yuan. Early scholars already have made significant contributions to the mutual understanding between Japan and China, and economical exchange between both countries.
  1. Scholarship project
    (1) Implementation processes
    A review committee will be formed in each university. They will prepare and manage the scholarship provision, and hold scholarship award ceremonies.
    (2) Scholarships
    Each scholar will receive 2000 yuan per year (ca 30,000 yen per year)
    (3) Number of scholars
    105 students who study Japanese in 13 universities, including Beijing Foreign Studies University
    (4) Features of the scholarship
    May be combined with other scholarships
    One year term

  2. Collected papers and overview meeting
    (1) Compilation of papers
    Papers submitted for review will be compiled and delivered to related organizations
    (2) Overview meeting
    An overview meeting will be held to discuss alternative ways to use the scholarship fund.
  3. Follow up
    Information on present and past scholars will be collected and a list will be made to strengthen the human network among present and past scholars.
