Strengthening Economic Ties between Russian Far East and the Asia-Pacific Region

The project aims to study possible policies concerning the economic development of the Russian Far East to promote economic integration between Russian Far East and the Pacific area.
Activities of the last year will be as follows.
- Preliminary workshop (August, 2006 in Khabarovsk)
Russian researchers will prepare research papers on the economic development of the Russian Far East and the cooperation of the Russian Far East with the Pacific area based on the previous yearfs results. Draft papers will be presented at the preliminary workshop with four invited Asian economic experts (Professor Mya Than of Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, Professor Jin Park from Korea Development Institute, Korea, Professor Satoshi Mosobata from the Institute of Economic Research, Kyoto University, and Assistant Professor Qiao Liu from School of Economics & Finance, the University of Hong Kong). The research papers will be summed up as policy proposals that include advice received from the four Asian economic experts.
- International conference (February, 2007 in Khabarovsk)
The Russian research team will finalize the policy proposals based on the discussion at the preliminary workshop and report them at the international conference. The international conference anticipated forty to fifty participants, including people from the Russian central government and research institutes, Russian Far East and Khabarovsk government offices, and the four invited Asian economic experts.
- Publication of proposal reports (March, 2007)
Two hundred and fifty copies of the policy proposals written in both English and Russian will be published.
