Central Eurasia had been split into many independent nations after the disintegration of the Soviet Union, and is now facing many hard problems including smuggling and cross border national security issues. It is essential to have capable and efficient leaders in order to solve these problems, but important positions in the governments are still occupied by old type communist leaders.
The project aims to provide young Central Eurasia leaders with essential knowledge and know-how for the establishment of a parliamentary democracy and development of regional collaboration in cooperation with experts from Asia, US and Europe. The project also aims to promote womenfs participation in society by enrolling an equal number of male and female participants in the project.
Activities of the project will be as follows.
- Central Eurasia Leaders Academy (CELA) training (June 16 to 25, 2006 in Istanbul)
Experts from US, Europe, Asia (Dr. Pang Eng Fong, former Singapore Ambassador to the UK), and Turk (Dr. Abdullah Gul, Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs) will provide 40 future Central Eurasia leaders with necessary knowledge and know-how. Contents of the training will be as follows.
(1) Regional cooperation
(2) Multinational security
(3) WTO and international economy
(4) International terrorism
(5) Confidence building
(6) Democratization and human rights
- Issyk-Kul training camp (4 days in October, 2006 in Kyrgyzstan)
Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan participants in the former project will give training based on their experience of the former project. 120 newly recruited participants will join the camp near Lake Issyk-Kul.
- Web site
A web site will be set up for the exchange of opinions and information for CELA and Issyk-Kul camp participants.
