Capacity Enhancement of Young Diplomats in Myanmar

The project aims to enhance the management capacity of young Myanmar diplomats to enhance relationships with ASEAN countries by sending them to major summit and ministerial summit meetings, giving on-site training at ASEAN organizing offices, and holding domestic workshops to share experience.
The following activities are planned for this year.
- Selection of young Myanmar diplomats (July to November, 2006)
MISIS and Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs will select young Myanmar diplomats to be sent for training at ASEAN meetings.
- Coordination with ASEAN organizing offices (July to November, 2006)
MISIS will coordinate capacity enhancement activities and cooperation with ASEAN organizing offices.
- Dispatch of Myanmar diplomats to high level ASEAN meetings including the ASEAN ministerial summit. (July to December, 2006)
MISIS will send 23 Myanmar diplomats to ASEAN meetings and workshops for management training (5 diplomats to the ASEAN ministerial summit in Kuala Lumpur, 8 diplomats to the 12th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, 5 diplomats to ASEAN management training workshops (twice in Jakarta))
- Domestic workshops (5 days in November, 2006 in Yangon)
Domestic workshops will be held to share experience with 30 Myanmar diplomats who have not received management training. Experts from Malaysia and Singapore, and participants in the 2005 project (Capacity Building in Myanmar in Preparation for ASEAN Summits) will be invited to the workshops as facilitators .
