Human Resource Development for ASEAN in Myanmar

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies (Myanmar)
It is most essential for Myanmar to strengthen diplomatic its ties with ASEAN countries to reduce international distrust of Myanmar and to receive development aid from foreign countries. However, it has been pointed out that diplomats and officers from relevant government departments do not have sufficient capability to manage international meetings and diplomatic affairs. Capacity building of diplomatic management is essential.
The project aims to nurture capable diplomats and relevant officers in the Myanmar government who can organize international meetings and affairs by sending them to ASEAN hosting countries to learn management skills for summits and ministerial summits, and organizing seminars to share their experience and management skills with relevant Myanmar officers in Yangon. The project tries to contribute to strengthening the management capacity of Myanmar diplomats to do their duty as members of an ASEAN country, and to develop and maintain a of good partnership with other ASEAN countries.
The project has the following self-operating and grant activities.
- Self-operating activities
(1) Mr. Aye Lwin, former Myanmar director in charge of ASEAN will be commissioned as the project coordinator to select candidates for management training, organize seminars for sharing experience and skills, and so on.
(2) Training seminars will be held with invited experts from ASEAN, Malaysian and Singapore ASEAN offices to train Myanmar diplomats and relevant government officers in organizing and managing ASEAN summits.
- Grant activities: Capacity Enhancement of Young Diplomats in Myanmar
MISIS will send young Myanmar diplomats to ASEAN organizing offices such as ministerial summits offices and organize domestic workshops for young Myanmar diplomats with invited experts from ASEAN countries and experienced Myanmar diplomats who participated in the program previously.
