Capacity Building for the Higher Education Sector in Cambodia

6,600,000 yen (Grant project)
Royal Academy of Cambodia(RAC, Cambodia)

Cambodia is still suffering from the aftermath of Pol Pot realm and lacks personnel who received higher education. In the 1980s, former Soviet Unions and East European countries supported Cambodian higher education by inviting young Cambodian elite to their countries where they studied in Russian or in Eastern European languages. Contrary to the present situation, donor organizations still focus on primary education, and there is a definite need for support of higher education in Cambodia. The project aims to provide leading professors of RAC with concentrated training for effective management by invited instructors from Asian countries including Japan.
Activities of the year will be as follows.
  1. Preparatory meeting in Phnom Penh (One day in June , 2006)
A preparatory meeting will be held to arrange a curriculum and teaching materials based on the last yearfs experience. Date of the workshop, selection of instructors, and preparation processes will be also discussed at the preparatory meeting. Teaching materials will be translated into Khmer and delivered to workshop participants.

  2. Workshop (November and December, 2006)
Five day concentrated workshops will be held for 35 professors from RAC 3 times during November and December, 2006. Instructors will be invited from Asian countries. The workshop syllabus will include teaching skills, communication skills, and improvement of presentation. After the workshop, RAC will collect feedback from workshop participants and the content of the feedback will be reflected in the next yearfs plans.

(Second year of a 3-year project)
