SPF India Study Group

    Japan has lacked experts in Indian politics, economics, social studies, and security areas, at a time when India has been achieving spectacular economic growth, and the importance of India in international society is increasing. To improve the current situation, the project aims to foster young Japanese experts who can make contributions to planning strategies and policies toward India. The project also aims to strengthen human networks between Japanese and Indian intellectuals. Activities of the first year will be as follows.
  1. Monthly meeting
    (1) Formation SPF India Study group (April, 2006)
    An SPF India Study group will be formed comprising about 10 young (30s to 40s) researchers in politics, social studies, economics, and security studies with Professor Hideki Esho of Hosei University and Professor Yonosuke Hara of the Institute of Oriental Culture, the University of Tokyo acting as advisors.
    (3) SPF India Study Group meetings (10 times a year)
    SPF India Study Group meetings will be held to discuss Indian domestic politics and society, sustainable economic development, diplomatic problems, and security issues. Meeting results will be compiled in Japanese in the first year.

  2. Site visits (September, 2006 and February, 2007)
    Six delegates will be selected from the members of the SPF India Study group and dispatched to India for site visits and conferences. The sites include Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.

  3. Workshops
    Workshops will be held in India to exchange opinions with Indian experts.
