Exchange and Experience Sharing between Local Government Officials from Japan and Vietnam

The project is the second part of the exchange program between Vietnam and Japan at the local level, and aims to promote sustainable exchange between Vietnam and Japan at the local level by providing local government officials in both countries with opportunities for mutual understanding. Six cities in Vietnam and Japan will be selected in which to hold workshops and exchange workshops will be organized to discuss such matters of local governance as the effective and proper execution of master plans and strategic plans for local development. The project will try to promote exchange and mutual understanding between local government officials in Vietnam and Japan by highlighting issues important in Vietnam and introducing the Japanese experience through a series of activities.
This year, two sets of cities, Viet Tri in Phu Tho prefecture, Vietnam and Kashihara in Nara prefecture, Japan, and Thai Binh, Vietnam and Iwaki in Fukushima prefecture, Japan will be selected for exchange, and the following activities will be conducted.
  1. Exchange promotion committee (Every each month)
    An exchange promotion committee will be formed with local governance and urban planning experts in Japan to discuss details of the exchange activities with the National Institute of Urban and Country Planning of Vietnam and targeting local cities in Vietnam and Japan.
  2. Exchange workshops for local government officials in Vietnam and Japan (Viet Tri and Tahi BInh, October and December, 2006)
    Japanese local officials (two) and urban planning experts (two) will visit the targeted cities in Vietnam and participate in exchange workshops for three days. Discussion themes include the promotion of tourism utilizing archeological monuments (in Viet Tri) and the promotion of industrial diversification focusing on agriculture (in Thai Binh).
  3. Coordination for the next yearfs exchange activities (Through year)
    Next yearfs targeted cities will be discussed based on the results of the exchange workshops.
