Exchange Program between Vietnam and Japan at the Local Level 13,600,000 yen (Self operated/Grant project) The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Japan Center for Area Development Research (JCADR, Japan), the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation (VPDF, Vietnam) Among the Japanese relationships with Southeast Asian countries, the relationship with Vietnam has been growing more and more important, because of the steadily growing Vietnamese economy. The Japan-Vietnam relationship has been deepening and exchange activities have been promoted by the central governments. But only big cities have been involved in these exchange activities, and nobody pays attention to various exchanges between smaller local cities in the two countries The project aims to contribute to the creation of new dimensions of exchange between the two countries by expanding big city oriented exchange activities to smaller local cities and local non-profit sectors. The project tries to provide platforms for exchange in local governance and regional development by supporting two programs: “Exchange and Experience Sharing between Non-Profit Sectors of Japan and Vietnam” and “Exchange and Experience Sharing between Local Government Officials of Japan and Vietnam”. The project aims to promote mutual understanding and the construction of human networks among local civil societies and local government officers of the two countries. Self operating project
