The Sasakawa Peace Foundation
The Sasakawa Peace Foundation and its affiliated organizations have been developing various human networks abroad by conducting various projects including scholarship programs and the total number of individuals included in the human networks amounts to about 30,000. However, there is no collaboration among these various networks. The present project aims to provide an opportunity for the development of a promising young Asian leadersf network by interconnecting the present networks and holding a retreat meeting in Peking to expand exchanges among these young leaders.
- Setting up of Academy Committee (July, 2006)
(1) Objectives: Selection of key note speakers and participants at the retreat meeting (July to August, 2006)
(2) Members: Seven members including Prof. Zhengyi Wang from Peking UniversityAProf. Zhang Qi of Peking UniversityAProf. Kim Hakun from Yonsei University, Dr. Thiparat of Chulalongkorn UniversityAand Prof. Amitav Acharya of Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, Nanyang Technological University.
- Preparations for the retreat meeting (July to September, 2006)
Announcement of the retreat meeting will be e-mailed with an application form to Individuals in the human networks, applications will be received, and participants will be selected and registered. Twenty participants (5 from China and 15 from ASEAN countries excluding Brunei, Japan, Korea, and India) are expected. Discussion subjects will include development and governance, transformation of political systems, media, innovation, and civil society.
- Retreat Meeting (September 3-10, 2006)
The retreat meeting will have two morning and two afternoon sessions daily, and participants will hear lectures and discuss certain subjects. A joint statement will be made by the participants on the last day of the retreat meeting.
