Building a Database for Life Sciences: The Market and Public Interests

The following activities are scheduled for this year.
  1. Creation of a database (Year-round):
    In addition to continuing with the previous year's activities, the project will collect and index data on new topics such as evidence-based medicine, biobanks, electric care cards, preimplantation diagnosis.

  2. International Workshop (September 2005 at the Sophia University Seminar House in Tokyo: 40 participants):
    An international workshop will be held inviting foreign researchers for the purpose of exchanging views and reporting on the progress made in creating the database.

  3. Preparation for conducting a questionnaire survey in Japan (Year-round):
    Preparations will be made for conducting a questionnaire in Japan on the market and public nature of biomedicine. The questionnaire will be conducted in 2006.

  4. Overseas interviews (September 2005):
    The project will interview several researchers at medical institutions/universities involved in the development of the Conflict of Interest Guidelines for Biomedicine.

  5. Completion of a model database/trial operation of website (year-round):
    The project will ensure that the model database is operating properly and make changes where necessary. Furthermore, the website will be made available for public viewing during a trial period in order to identify specific problems arising from the launch of the website for public use.
