Co-Research Project on Japan-China Security Issues 2005

Delegates consisting of Japanese Defense Department officials and security experts will participate in the Northeast Asia Security Symposium to be held in Beijing. Japanese participants will also visit facilities of the armed forces, institutes for military affairs and security, and relevant agencies of the People's Liberation Army
- Preparatory meeting:
A preparatory meeting will be held with invited representatives of the Chinese participants to discuss the details of the symposium and to select participants.
- Symposium:
In October, 2005, the 6th Symposium on the Northeast Asian Security Issues will be held in Beijing. Subjects of the discussion will include several security problems including China-Japan mutual security, Korean Peninsula issues, Taiwan issues, continental shelf issues, national security issues, and China-Japan cooperation. Japanese participants will also visit military institutes in Beijing and local areas, and the armed forces of the PLA after the symposium. The Japanese participants will include military experts from the Japanese Defense Department, Self-Defense Force, National Institute for Defense Studies, and relevant Japanese defense and security institutions. The Chinese participants will include military experts from the Ministry of National Defense, General Staff Head quarters, General Political Department, the National Defense University, the Academy of Military Science、Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing University, Tsinghua University, and high ranking officials from the PLA. The total number of participants from both countries will be approximately 100.
- Summary meeting
After the symposium, a summary meeting will be held in Beijing to review the symposium, and a report will be compiled and distributed to relevant organizations.
