Program for Promoting Japan-China Exchange in the Field of Security

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF)
The program will invite delegates from the China Institute For International Strategic Studies (CIISS) to Japan to deepen their understanding of Japan. The program also sends delegates from the Self-Defense Force to China to deepen their understanding of China.
- Preparation for the China and Japan Visits:
SPF and relevant organizations will discuss the contents of the training and teaching materials and prepare training programs.
- Preparations for the Japan Visit:
Representatives of the Chinese participants will visit Japan to discuss the contents of the training program in Japan.
- China Visit
The Planning Section of the Defense Agency will organize the delegates to be sent to China.
(1) Participants: Ten defense experts consisting mainly of Self-Defense Force field officers and some influential individuals.
(2) Date: mid June, 2005
(3) Participants in the exchange program: about 150, including participants in past programs
(4) Sites of Visit: Defense Department, defense-related educational institutions, facilities of the armed forces, universities, corporations, rural villages, and cultural and historic sites.
- Japan Visit
CIISS will organize the delegation and members of the delegates will be selected from among field officers of the Peoplefs Liberation Army (PLA) by the Defense Department.
(1) Participants: Twenty field officers from the PLA
(2) Date: mid August, 2005
(3) Participants in the exchange program: approximately 100, including participants from the past programs.
(4) Sites of Visit: the Self-Defense Agency, the National Institute for Defense Studies, the National Defense Academy, facilities of the armed forces, corporations, private associations, farm houses, and cultural and historic sites.
