Sasakawa Scholarship System for Chinese Students Studying Japanese, PhaseII

China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC, China)
The purpose of the project is to contribute to mutual understanding between Japan and China by supporting Chinese students who study Japanese in China.
- Schedule
A review committee will be formed in April to serve as management of the scholarship fund. Funding will start in October.
- Amount of scholarship
2000 Yuan (about 30,000 yen) per year per person.
- Number of scholarships
105 students studying Japanese will be selected from thirteen Chinese universities including Beijing Foreign Studies University.
- Conditions
Students must
1) be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate study program (MA or Ph.D)
2) demonstrate outstanding performance and have clear objectives
3) comply with laws and regulations, be strict in morals, and in good health
4) submit an outstanding essay (approximately 1200 characters long)
- Features of the scholarship
1) May be combined with other scholarships
2) One year term
- Monitoring, publication of essays, and evaluation
CAIFC will publish a book of essays and hold a review meeting to monitor student performance. CAIFC will also consider building a network system among relevant people including the students and CAIFC to enable effective management of the project and close contact with the students; a database will be constructed to monitor students after graduation.
