Possibilities for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership between BIMST-EC Countries and Japan

The program will be implemented in cooperation with think tanks, such as the Center for Studies in International Relations and Development (CSIRD, India), the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS, Bangladesh), the Institute of Security and International Studies (ISIS, Thailand), the Myanmar Institute of strategic and International Studies (MISIS, Myanmar), and the Sri Lankan Institute of International Relations (SLIIR, Sri Lanka) Activities of the first year will be as follows.
  1. Research Coordination Meeting (May, 2005, in Kolkata)
    Representatives from the 5 think tanks, Japanese experts, and also representatives from Japanese companies in India will get together in Kolkata and discuss research issues involving trading and transportation, research frameworks, and research methods.
  2. Conducting Research (June to October, 2005)
    Research on the issues selected at the coordination meeting will be conducted under the coordination of CSIRD. During the research, special stress will be placed on obtaining views from policy makers and companies by holding hearings.
  3. International Meeting (December, 2005, in Kolkata)
    An international meeting will be held to review the results of the research with the research participants, Japanese experts, government policy makers, businessmen, and relevant NGOs. The number of meeting participants will be about 40.
  4. Publication (January to March, 2006)
    Transcripts of the international meeting will be published as a discussion paper or policy proposals, and distributed to relevant organizationsD
