Support for Azerbaijan's Bid for WTO Membership

Economic Research Center (ERC, Azerbaijan)
Activities of the second year will be as follows.
- Fact-finding tour and collecting information (April, 2005)
The ERC will organize fact-finding tours for China and Korea to learn from their experience with WTO accession and collect information about conditions for WTO accession in cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and WTO and Trade Strategy Center of KDI School of Policy and Management. They will also visit WTO Headquarters in Geneva.
- Research and workshop in Azerbaijan (April to September, 2005)
Upon their return from the fact-finding tour, they will analyze the experiences of foreign countries in promoting free trade and trading activities. They will also review past research results and prepare proposals for the government. Four workshops will be held in Baku with people from the Azerbaijan government and companies as participants.
- Dissemination of research results (June, 2005)
The research results will be published in the economic journal gExperth, and distributed to the government, companies, and NGOs.
- International Symposium (September, 2005)
Based on the results of the past yearfs research, the program will organize an international symposium entitled gAzerbaijan and the WTOh in Baku, targeting about 50 government and company people with invited foreign researchers from WTO Headquarters, China, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkistan. Proposals on WTO accession will be made on this occasion.
