Toward a New Partnership between Russia and Japan in Asia

Activities of the second year will be as follows.
- Japanese Research Team (April 2005 to February 2006)
A Japanese Research Team consisting of veteran and young researchers in Russian affairs will hold workshops and seminars in Japan and discuss various issues such as Japan-Russia relationships, Russian central and local government relationships under the second term of the Putin Administration, and Russian diplomatic policies towards Asia, in English with invited foreign researchers in Russian Affairs and Asian Affairs. The young researchers will meet regularly and discuss their progress in the research, and will publish joint reports.
- Publication of joint reports by the Japanese Research Team (March, 2006)
The Japanese Research Team will compile joint reports concerning the
political, economical, and historical aspects of Russian diplomatic policies towards Asia, Japan-Russia relationships, and China-Russia relationships, and publish them in both English and Japanese.
- Overseas Research activity (July, 2005 to February, 2006)
The activity aims to provide young Japanese researchers opportunities to exchange opinions with foreign researchers on Russian affairs and international relationships, and experience in discussion at international meetings. They will present research results at international meetings, attend on-site workshops held in cooperation with Asian or Russian research institutes, and conduct interview surveys. Tentative candidate meetings will be annual meetings of the International Council for Central and East European Studies (ICCEES) and the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies (AAASS). Collaborating institutes will include the Institute of Far Eastern Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences (IFES) and the Moscow State Institute of International Relation.
