Enhancing the Agricultural Economics Research Capacity in Laos

4,900,000 yen [Grant Project]
Faculty of Agriculture, National University of Laos (Laos)

One of the most important tasks for the economic development of Laos is the modernization of agriculture, the products of which account for more than 50% of GDP. It is necessary to study logistics and tax benefits as well as irrigation technologies in order to accomplish this difficult task. However, the Faculty of Agriculture, National University of Laos, has a significant shortage of experienced teachers to conduct education and research since the course in economic agriculture studies was established only a year ago.

Under the present situation, the project aims to strengthen the intellectual platform for the modernization of agriculture in Laos by supporting capacity building activities in the higher education system in Laos.

This year, the project will support the organization of a research coordination meeting, case studies in cassava and sugarcane farming, the preparation of academic papers, and the organization of a meeting to report the results of the studies.

(First year of a 3-year project)
