8,400,000 yen [Grant Project]
National Economic Research Institute (NERI) (Laos)
This year, the following three activities will be conducted in parallel:
- Quarter year economic surveillance (July 2005 to March 2006)
Researchers at the Laos National Institute of Economic Research will conduct two kinds of quarter year economic surveillance (short-term economic forecasting and a consumer trend survey) that were developed in a past project, Developing an Economic Forecasting Model in Laos, and conduct analysis of the surveillance. The results will be reported at seminars. The short-term economic forecasting will target 300 private companies in 11 regional public authorities, and the consumer trend survey will target 500 households in 8 regional public authorities. Seminars will be held twice during the project to confirm the results of the surveillance with representatives invited from UNDP, the World Development Bank, JICA, and other related organizations.
- Economic Research (July 2005 to March 2006)
Researchers, mainly from LNIEP, will conduct research on comparative advantage industries in Laos. During the research, a workshop on methodology (August) and reporting seminars (November 2005 and February 2006) will be held with invitations extended to foreign economic experts. The final report of the project will contain the results of the workshop and seminars. For the final reporting seminar, a certain number of attendees will be expected, including representatives from related ministries and universities, but the mid-term seminar and workshop will be limited to participants in the project.
