Enhancing Distant Learning in Cambodian Rural Schools

With the use of the Internet, the program aims to improve school management systems in selected local farming and remote areas where transportation and communication infrastructures are not well equipped.
The following activities are planned.
- Mobile Access Point Network System (MAP, starting in April, 2005)
The program will help to establish distance learning and email communication systems by driving a radio-equipped motorbike through the selected school areas. The systems will be introduced to 12 schools in Northwest Pailin Province on a trial basis.
- Establishment/preparation of a wireless information/telecommunications education system (July, 2005 to March, 2006)
A hub (internet access point) to serve as the information base will be selected, and MAP will be installed at the selected schools in local farming areas.
- Fact-finding visits (July to November, 2005)
In order to study skills in remote learningin comparison with Cambodia, and to improve the MAP system, representatives of AACRC will visit Australia and Fiji where remote learning is well established.
- Training personnel (July, 2005 to January, 2006)
Forty trainees will be selected from among teachers in the selected areas and receive training in English and PC learning once during each of two 2-month periods (April to May and September to October).
