Research Capacity Building for the Economics Department of the National University of Laos

This is the third year of a 3-year project. Twenty trainees will be divided into 3 groups (approximately 7 members per group), and each group will compile a report in English in order to acquire skills for writing and presenting in English.
- Workshops (August, 2005)
About 20 trainees will study various methods of research, such as statistical analysis, for one week in Vientiane.
- Overseas Training (August, 2005)
A representative participant in the overseas training will be selected from each trainee group, and the 3 representatives will study literature search and other methods at De La Salle University in Manila and at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok under the guidance of the advisors.
- Research and reports (September 2005 to February 2006)
Upon their return to Laos, the representatives of each team will conduct research and compile reports. The foreign advisors will visit Vientiane and help the trainees analyze their data.
- Seminar on presentation skills (November, 2005)
A 3-day seminar will be held for the trainees to improve their skills in presentation at the National University of Laos.
- Symposium (February, 2006)
A symposium will be held at the National University of Laos to discuss and evaluate the research based on the reports prepared by the trainees.
- Dissemination of reports
Edited reports based on the discussions at the symposium will be published in an academic journal to be published by the Faculty of Economics and Management of the National University of Laos. Three reports from each group will be compiled.
