Japan Center for Conflict Prevention (JCPP) (Japan)
The following activities will be conducted this year with the aim of fostering human resources that can contribute to peace building.
- Training Technical Advisors of Demining Teams in Afghanistan (October to Feb. 2004 in Kabul)
A program for training technical advisors will be conducted from October 2004 to February 2005. The program will be led by training officers from the Danish Demining Group (DDG) and will consist of training in identification and removal of mines and duds. Training program will be composed of both lectures and on the job training at simulated minefields and actual minefields. The program will also provide training necessary for forming a demining team composed of 26 locals (one team leader, three section leaders, two drivers/communication officers, two medical staff, and 18 demining staff).
- Creating an environment conducive to the use of technical advisors (October 2004 to March 2005)
The implementing organization will negotiate with relevant government agencies and international organizations as well as hire a liaision officer in order to secure an environment in which the technical advisors and demining teams can operate effectively It is hoped that such preparations will ensure sustainability of the project by enabling NGOs to receive grant assistance for demining projects offered by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Information dissemination for conflict prevention (2000 copies each of the autumn and winter issues)
The project will aim to disseminate information about this project and increase understanding of demining operations in Afghanistan through the publication of the quarterly journal "Japan Center for Conflict Prevention Bulletin."
