The Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations,Harvard University (USA)
The following activities will be conducted this year.
- Compilation of current situation analysis report (April to December 2004)
The report will primarily consist of the following:
- Clarification of importance of NPO accountability, and analysis of social, economic, and political situations that need to be given the highest priority.
- Clarification of main issues identified through the research and analysis of current issues in the field.
- Outline of existing initiatives (code of practice, certification system, evaluation tools, and other theories) in related areas (accountability/transparency).
- Exploratory Committee (May 2004)
A committee comprising a selection of NPO practitioners, researchers and members of donor agencies with extensive experience in this field will meet to discuss the future direction and activities of the project.
- Compilation of a guide to holding conferences(July 2004 to March 2005)
Work on preparing a guide to holding conferences will start. With the aim of facilitating effective and efficient discussions in this field, the guide will comprise (1) overview of main purposes of conferences and (2) instructions on utilizing existing tools and methods of organizing conferences.
- Guidance (July 2004 to March 2005)
The project will select three or four international conferences conducted by NPOs or researchers and call on the conference organizers to place the legitimacy issue on the conference agenda, and will provide the necessary guidance for ensuring that effective discussions take place.
- Information dissemination (March 2005)
The analysis reports and information related to the conferences will be made available on the web.
