Studying a Satellite Account on Nonprofit Institutions and its Relation to the System of National Accounts in Japan

In this final year of the project, the research committee will undertake the following research/activities. For the purpose of efficiency, working groups will be organized for each topic, and each group will report its findings to the committee.
  1. Compilation of a glossary (April to September)
    A glossary for the SNA/NPI handbook will be compiled for use in Japan.

  2. Defining Non Profit Institutions and drafting guidelines for the adoption of NPI satellite accounts in Japan (April to September)
    A report will be compiled explaining how various institutions (public service corporations, NPOs, medical corporations, and other types of organizations) would be treated if the definitions/classifications of NPI outlined in the handbook are applied in Japan.

  3. Completing final version of Statistical Tables (April to September)
    The various classifications for statistical tables of NPI satellite accounts included in the handbook will be discussed with the view of adopting the system in Japan.

  4. Conducting Questionnaires and Hearing Surveys (July to December)
    Questionnaires and hearing surveys will be conducted for the purpose of supplementing existing statistical data.

  5. Research on practical application of NPI Satellite Accounts (July to December)
    The committee will consider the feasibility of actual application of NPI satellite accounts in Japan.

  6. Comparison of two time periods in Japan (July to December)
    Comparative research and analysis will be conducted on NPI activities in Japan according to purpose/sector before and after the system changed (1990 and 2000) so that the findings can be used as reference information for creating statistical tables.

  7. Compilation of collection of reports/essays (November to March)
    Each of the committee members will write essays on specific topics and these will be compiled into a single volume.

  8. Debriefing Session (February)
    A forum will be organized for sharing the research results (importance of NPI satellite accounts etc.) with the cabinet office and other related organizations and individuals (professionals, NPI, citizens etc.)
