The Hastings Center(USA)
- Project Meeting
The first project meeting will be held at the Hastings Centre in New York. The project will identify the background and framework for the project through observing presentations made by experts that will be invited from within and outside the US.
- Possibilities and importance of intellectual property rights
- Trade related intellectual property security (TRIPS) and the WTO Doha Development Agenda
- Ownership of scientific discoveries: Outline of the debate on whether it is public or private property?
- Intellectual property rights systems in the world (case studies)
- Feasibility study of two case studies to be taken up by the project:
1) International patents for essential drugs such as those for HIV/AIDS and 2) Patenting and licensing of living organisms such as genes and stem cells.
- Preliminary Research
Literature research/analysis on the topics raised at the aforementioned project meeting will be conducted throughout the year.
- Announcement of Research Results
The information and proposals that results from the above research will be announced
at an international conference (World Intellectual Property Conference or American
Society for Bioethics and Humanities Meeting).
