Bioethical Issues of Intellectual Property Rights II

The Chancellor, Masters and Scholars of the University of Cambridge The following activities will be undertaken in this one-year project.

  1. April to June 2004:
    Discuss research and survey results and arrive at a conclusion.

  2. April to August 2004:
    Prepare for Tokyo Workshop(to be held in September 2004/2 days)

  3. September 2004:
    Hold the Tokyo Workshop over two days inviting approximately 100
    participants:People are expected to attend from various European countries and Asian countries such as Japan, Iran, Thailand, and Malaysia.

      Day 1
    • Keynote Speech:Commercialization of Bio-technology and its risks
    • Fair handling of intellectual property and ethical aspects
    • Ethical aspects of genetic engineering and intellectual property rights
    • Bioethical issues and intellectual property rights


      Day 2
    • Basic ethical issues stemming from current laws related to intellectual property
    • Basic issues of patent protection
    • Genetic codes and legal regulations

  4. September to December 2004:
    Compile report on the Tokyo Workshop and distribute to participant and the general public.

  5. January to March 2005:
    Bio-related patents and ethics(Tentative title/English/Cambridge University Press)
