Exchange Media Personnel among the Pacific Island Region and Japan

In this final year of the project, one senior media personnel from the Pacific Island Region will be invited to Japan, and a Japanese journalist will be sent to the Pacific Island region to engage in research and exchange activities. A comprehensive evaluation of the project will be carried out and a report will be compiled. The results of the evaluation will be used to make future plans for the project.

  1. Fact-finding visit to Japan: (One week in June 2004)
    One senior member of the media from the Pacific Island nations will visit Japan and conduct research in order to further his/her understanding of Japan.

  2. Fact-finding visit to the Pacific Island Region: (One week in October 2004)
    One media personnel from Okinawa prefecture will visit the Pacific Island Region for one week to go on fact-finding tours, conduct research, and meet with journalists from the region.

  3. Project report
    A project report will be compiled consisting primarily of articles and programs by the participants.

  4. Project evaluation
    The project will fund an external evaluation of the past five years of the project. A report will be compiled including not only the project evaluation, but also information on the current situation and future challenges of the media in the regions concerned and proposals for improving the project in the future.
