Japan Visit Program for City Mayors

China Association for International Friendly Contact (China)


A delegation comprising primarily mayors and deputy mayors of Chinese cities will visit Japan to learn about Japan's experiences in urban development and enhance their capabilities as government officials as well as their understanding of Japan.

  1. Implementation:
    China Association for International Friendly Contact (China)

  2. Participants:
    A total of ten people including mayors/deputy mayors of provincial cities, and staff members of the China Association for International Friendly Contact.

  3. Preparatory meeting (Summer 2004):
    A preparatory meeting will be held for participants in Beijing.

  4. Visit to Japan (Eight days in the summer of 2004): Tokyo, Sapporo, Osaka etc.
    Date/Venue:Fall 2004 in Tokyo

    • Workshop:
      A workshop will be held in Tokyo inviting experts on urban management.
    • Visits:
      Participants will visit central and regional government offices and engage in discussions on urban management.
    • Informal gathering:
      An informal gathering will be held in Tokyo and Osaka so that Japanese and Chinese government officials can get to know each other.
    • Fact-finding tour:
      Participants will visit with central and regional government officials and others involved in urban development.

  5. Meeting:
    A meeting will be held on the participants' return to China to discuss what they learned through the visit.

  6. Compilation and distribution of a report:
    A report will be complied and distributed to relevant departments/organizations.
