Program for Promoting Japan-China Exchange in the Field of Security

The China Institute for International Strategic Studies will send a delegation of PLA officers to Japan with aim of furthering their understanding of the country. A delegation of SDF field officers will also be invited to visit China to further their understanding of the country.

  1. Training program in Japan:
    The Defense Department of the People's Liberation Army will form a delegation to be sent to Japan by the China Institute for International Strategic Studies.

    • Participants from China:
      Thirty field officers of the People's Liberation Army
    • Timeframe: Two weeks in the fall of 2004
    • Participants in the exchange program:
      Approximately 100 people (including past participants.)
    • Fact-finding tours:
      Defense Agency, National Institute for Defense Studies, Defense Academy, Self Defense Force facilities, private corporations, organizations, farming households, cultural/historic sites.

  2. Training program in China:
    The Planning Section of the Defense Agency will form a delegation to visit China.

    • Participants from Japan:
      A group of ten people comprising self defense officers and other defense experts.
    • Timeframe:
      Undecided
    • Participants in exchange program:
      Approximately 100 people (including past participants.)
    • Fact-finding tour:
      Defense Department, Defense-related educational institutions, facilities of the armed forces, corporations, rural villages, and cultural/historical sites.
