A Study of Asset Management Practices in State Owned Enterprises: Learning from the Japanese Experience

An international conference will be held with the aim of having Japanese companies share their expertise in asset management and productivity enhancement with their Chinese counterparts. The conference will be organized with the cooperation of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of State Council and a Japanese organization recommended by the aforementioned commission. At the same time as contributing to the enhancement of Chinese management skills, the project also aims to improve the productivity of formerly state-owned companies and reduction in sales of assets. Furthermore, the conference will provide a forum for Chinese corporate executives and Japanese experts to share information and expertise. The details of the project are as follows:
- Preparatory meeting: Will be held in Beijing in October. The State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission will lead the discussion on the content of the conference.
- International Conference
- Date: two days in December 2004
- Venue: Beijing
- Participants: A total of 80 people including three Japanese lecturers, two Chinese lecturers, Chinese corporate executive, central government officials responsible for the reform of state-owned enterprises, Japanese corporate management experts, members of the media etc.
- Dissemination: A forum will be provided for Japanese and Chinese experts to exchange views on the conference. The content of the conference will also be widely reported through mainstream Chinese newspapers and television stations.
- Compilation of a project report: The content of the conference will be compiled into reports (in both Japanese and English) and submitted to Chinese companies and relevant agencies in Japan and China.
