Towards an Asian Economic Community: The Way Forward
11,400,000 yen [Grant Project]
Research and Information System for the Non-aligned and Other Developing Countries(India)
The following activities are scheduled for 2004.
- Continuation of the research network (April 2004 to March 2005):
The project will continue to operate the website created last year that links Asian research institutions and promote discussions on issues of regional cooperation among specialists via the site.
- Policy research by the Task Force (May to December 2004):
The implementing organization will organize a task force and conduct research on the following themes:
1) strategic cooperation on information-communication technology in Asia, 2) cooperation on biotechnology issues in Asia
3) realization of a JACIK (Japan, ASEAN, China, India, Korea) Free Trade Agreement.
- International Conference (August 2004 in Tokyo):
An international conference will be held, with the cooperation of the Institute of Developing Economies and Waseda University, aimed at working toward the creation of an Asian Economic Community based on the abovementioned research results. Professionals from Japan, Southeast Asia, China, India, and Korea will be invited to the conference.
- Publication of newsletters (April 2004 to March 2005):
Four newsletter issues drawing from on-line debates and research activities of the project will be published with the aim of strengthening Asian economic cooperation
