The following activities will be carried out in the target Central Eurasian countries in 2004.


  1. CELA Seminar (July 19 to 28):
    A seminar will be held at Koc University (Istanbul) inviting a group of young leaders from Central Eurasian countries. The seminar will cover topics such as multilateral regional cooperation, confidence building, democratization, with the aim of providing participants with the necessary knowledge and expertise for leading their countries in the future. In addition to American and European experts and practitioners, East Asian specialists will also be invited to speak at the seminar.

  2. Follow-up Seminar (October 15 to 18, 2004):
    A seminar on the theme "Central Asia 2020 a Vision of Regional Cooperation" will be held in Kazakhstan (Almaty). It will serve as a follow-up seminar for the young leaders that attended the CELA seminar in Istanbul.

  3. Regional Seminar (November 2004):

  4. Website production:
    A website will be created to provide the participants of the CELA seminar and follow-up seminar with a forum for exchanging views and information and also to disseminate information on the seminars.

  5. One Japanese specialist will be sent to the East West Institute, Istanbul Research Center, with the aim of strengthening cooperation with SPF on projects in the Central Eurasian region.

  6. A staff member of the East West Institute will participate in the SPF Issyk-Kul Forum with the aim of strengthening the link between the forum and the project.
