Enhancing Distant Learning in Cambodian Rural Schools

The following activities will be conducted this year in the Northwest Cambodian Province of Pailin with the cooperation of experts from the United States and other countries.

  1. Establishment/preparation of a wireless information/telecommunications education system(July to October 2004)
    (1) Selection of nine primary schools from Pailin Province.
    (2) Setting up mobile access point network systems at each of the selected schools.
    (3) Selection of a hub (Internet Access Point) that will serves as the information base.

  2. Operation of the Mobile Access Point Network System(November 2004)
    The project will establish a system where a radio-equipped motorbike passing through the selected schools functions as the hub for distance learning and email communication. The system will then be used at the schools on a trial basis.

  3. Human Resources Development Workshop (July 2004 to March 2005)
    Five workshops will he held in Pailin Province to train nine computer teachers and five computer technicians. Specialists and other people in the field of information communications will be invited to engage in discussion regarding technical training and promotion of utilization.
