Capacity Building in Strategic Decision-Making: Lessons from the Development Experience in the Asia-Pacific Region

The following activities will be conducted in this final year of the project. The conference 2. was added as a result of a change in plans.

  1. Training course for policy practitioners
    • Selection of course participants (August 2004)
      Government agencies and NGOS in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia Five candidates will be selected through screening of application documents and interviews

    • Preparations for training course (September 2004)
      Georgian specialists will utilize GFSIS's expertise in conducting training programs to compile teaching materials for the course.

    • Training Course (November 2004)
      A two-week training course will be conducted in Georgia with researchers from the implementing organization and other specialists serving as lecturers.

    • Compiling a report (January to February 2005)
      Reports on the training course and overall project will be compiled by the end of February 2005.

  2. South Caucasus Security Conference (Participants: 150 (25 from overseas) February 2005.
    The following is the agenda for the conference:
    • Address by Dr. Saakashvilli, President of the Republic of Georgia
    • South Caucasus: Situation since independence and future outlook
    • Russian, Iranian, and Turkish Diplomacy toward the Caucasus
    • Strategic perspectives toward the Caucasus from the viewpoint of Western and East Asian counties.
    • Economic system after the transitional economy
    • Security and confidence building in the South Caucasus
    • Toward peaceful coexistence in the South Caucasus (Policy Recommendations)
      A report on the security conference and policy recommendations will be compiled in March 2005.
Specialists from East Asian countries that are also involved in our foundation's self-operated project "Capacity Building and Promoting Exchange of Central Eurasian Young Leaders" will attend the meeting to assist in project implementation.
